It’s the district of Sundargarh which is located in Odisha; India is also called as Sundargarh district. This district is located at the North West side of the state. This is also the fifth scheduled area as per the constitution of this country. At the west side, Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh is bordering it, at the north-west side, Jashpur of Chhattisgarh used to border it, at the north side Simdega of Jharkhand use to border it and at the east side Keonjhar district uses to border it. It’s the town of Sundargarh which is also the dist HQ. The Sundargarh district is also known as the 2nd largest district in the state of Odisha as far as the area periphery is concerned. It spreads over an area around 9712 sq km. as per the census of 2011; the population of this district was 2,080,664. There are many notable tourists attractions located at this district.
It’s the Tensa town that is named after the Tensa Hill and this is a prime town in the district of Sundargarh. This town is a removal Township. It’s the origin of this town that is strange enough. But this is sure that such town was once used as the place for tribal resolution prior to the industrialization that took place at this region in a massive way. During the 1960s, this town has received the touch of industrialization. After this the mining community started to flourish here at a great pace. It’s the Tensa Hill area which is also known as the mini hill-station in Odisha.
As this place is located at a height of 3780m from above the sea level, the climatic condition of this place often attracts people to spend the summer time here. It’s the Mirigikhoj Waterfall which is located at a distance of 114 km from the town of Rourkela. This waterfall is also located at the back side of Kalta Iron Mines. From the month of Aug, you can experience the real force as well as beauty of this waterfall. This waterfall is 100 ft high and it is located in various steps. It’s the bed of the Mirigikhoj Waterfall which is packed with stones of iron ores. The fact is that such waterfall is still in an unexplored form and there are many people who don’t even know about its presence.
This waterfall is also called as the Toda Naal. The water that uses to flow from this fall is quite chill as this fall is surrounded by the hills from every side along with the big trees. From Rourkela, you can reach for Rajamunda. And from there you will go to Lahunipada and from there you will reach for the Chuna Ghati. At this Ghati you can also see the temple of Bana Devi. The Mirigikhoj Waterfall is just eight km away from this place.
It’s the khandadhar waterfall that uses to fall from a height of 244m. This makes it the 12th highest waterfall in a country like India. This is an amazing waterfall and located at a distance of 114 km from the town of Rourkela. The water coming through this waterfall is supported by the Korapani Nala which is a perennial flow. The khandadhar Waterfall is located under the Nandapani, Bonaigarh zone of Sundergarh district. As per the history, for the first time the tribal group called as Pauri Bhuiya have explored the place around khandadhar where this waterfall is located. But now this waterfall and its beauty has hampered a lot due to constant mining at the surrounding locations.
Right on the khandadhar Hill Range, there is also Kurmitar Mine operated. From this mine, iron ore is exported to China as well as manganese to Korea. Due to such mining operations, the mountain top stream was diverted. Due to this reason, there is a partial drying of such waterfall can be seen. Despite all these facts, the khandadhar waterfall still attracts many visitors to explore its natural beauty and scenery.
As far as Darjing is concerned, this is quite a popular picnic spot located in the Sundergarh district, Odisha. This place is located right on River Brahmani’s bank. It’s the location of this place that adds more beauty factors for it. There are so many high trees as well as sand and stones located here where you will love to arrange a picnic. Such place is also admired as a great spot for outing, fishing and bathing. There are really many rocks located on the river bed.
Here, the river is also wide. During the monsoon time, this river uses to acquire its full pace and flow. From the city of Rourkela, the Darjing is located at a distance of 45 km. this is also a village that comes under the Lahunipara Tehsil located in Sundergarh district. From the dist HQ, it is located at a distance of 106 km. the closest railway station to Darjing is located at Patasahi.
Hanuman Vatika is one of the most popular gardens located in Sundergarh district. This is located at the Rourkela city. Late Biju Pattnaik who was then the chief minister of Odisha has inaugurated this garden. The Hanuman’s statue located here is 75ft high. On the 23rd Feb every year, here the foundation of the garden is celebrated. There are also 12 Jyotir Lingas located here. There are also some temples like Bata Mangala Devi, Jagannath Temple, Sarala Devi Temple, Santoshi Maa Temple and Lakshmi temple are located here. There is also a Kalyan Mandap constructed here in order to accommodate the public during the function time. Sri Lakshman Swami who is from Hyderabad has constructed this statue of Hanuman.
Maa Vaishno Devi Temple
It’s the Goddess Kali who is the presiding deity of Maa Vaishno Devi Temple. Here, Goddess Saraswati is also worshiped. This is a hill top temple and thus it offers a great view of the surrounding. Once you are here, you can really experience a heavenly feeling.
Sukha Mahadev Temple
In order to reach this temple, you need to take the NH from the city of Rourkela and move for Vedvyas. Once you reach Vedvyas, you should move for Sundergarh. Once you cross the Badagaon Chowk, take the right diversion towards Kunkuri which is located in Chhattisgarh state. After covering 24 km, a small village named as Subdega will come. After this village you need to cover another six km and then two diversions will come. One will take you towards Kunkuri and one will take you for Talsara. You need to move in Kunkuri direction and you will reach at Sarabhai village. From this village, take the left turn and after covering 500m or so, you will reach at the Sukha Mahadev Temple.
Vedavyas is the most popular spot located in the city of Rourkela. It is believed that Maharishi Vedvyas wrote the Mahabharata right here. The rivers like Koel, Shankha and Saraswati pass by this place. Due to this reason, it has become a hot spot for picnickers. The natural beauty of this place often attracts people from different parts of Odisha.
