Biraja Temple or known as Girija Devi Temple

As the Biraja temple or Girija Devi temple is located in this district, it is also called as the Biraja Kshetra. Especially, the town of Jajpur is known in this fashion. This place belongs to the Sacred Goddess Biraja who symbolizes Power or Shakti. The Biraja temple which is also known as the Girija Devi temple is located in Jajpur district. This temple is also considered as the one among other 51 Shakti pithas. This is also the place where the Sati’s navel has fallen. During the 13th century this temple was built. It’s the town of Jajpur that has managed to grow around this temple over the years.

Here, the main temple is dedicated to Biraja Devi. It is also known as Biraja Mandir. Here, you can find the goddess’s who use to mount on the lions back while carrying the spear in one arm as well as holding the tail of the Mahishasur with her other hand. The prime festivals observed at this temple are Kali Puja and Durga Puja. Due to the establishment of this temple, the town of Jajpur is also considered as an important pilgrimage spot. After the King Jajati Keshari, such name was assigned for this place. From Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, Jajpur is located at a distance of 72 and 100 km respectively.
